Choosing the Right Bike: A Beginner’s Guide to Road, Mountain, Hybrid, Gravel, and Touring Bikes.

Looking to get back on your bike or try cycling for the first time? The weather is looking up, making it the perfect opportunity. As a beginner, it’s crucial to take your time and get a medical check-up beforehand. If you’re serious about cycling, consider investing in the right bike for you. There are a few different types to choose from.

Road bikes are the best choice for getting fit and covering long distances quickly. They are lightweight and fast, with skinny tires and light wheels, making them swift and efficient.

Hybrid bikes are a combination of road and touring bikes with flat handlebars. They provide a more comfortable ride than a road bike, with wider wheels and an upright position like a mountain bike. However, you won’t be as aerodynamic as you are on a road bike.

Mountain bikes are great for off-road riding, with knobbly tires and a bombproof frame. They are the top choice for leisure cyclists who want an upright position.

Gravel bikes are built with a stronger frame and wider tires to handle more punishment. They are meant for off-road paths and lanes.

Touring bikes are great for getting from A to B. They have tougher tires and mudguards, with an easier riding position for better vision.

In my opinion, a road bike is the best option. Though less comfortable than other options, the performance more than makes up for it. Most shops will allow you to test ride bikes, but consider borrowing one from a friend or work colleague for a few days to get a feel for what works for you.
