When Danish Camilla Lærkesen and Martin Sleimann fell in love, they quickly faced one challenge: Lærkesen was in his late 20s and wanted a child. The girlfriend, on the other hand, had two children from before, and was determined that it would last.
Thus Lærkesen had to find another way to fulfill her childhood dream, she explains in the Danish program “Go’ aften Live”.

Non-traditional choice
– I had found the man I wanted to grow old with. So I thought: “There must be another way to do it”, says Lærkesen in the programme, reproduced by Danish TV 2.
– Not pleasant to be around
Four years into the relationship, Lærkesen found a solution. She has now chosen to become a single mother and have a child via a sperm donor, despite the couple’s relationship going smoothly.
In the same programme, Sleimann explains that he does not want to take part in “project baby” and “make big decisions”.

Thus, Sleimann will not be the legal father of his girlfriend’s children either, but he still supports Lærkesen’s choice.
– It’s not like I don’t want to have a relationship with the child. Of course I get it. So it’s not just “get rid of the band-aid” and move on, he explains, and emphasizes that he will help with nappy changes and other practical things.
– Will stand up as a donor
– Silly
In “Go’ aften Live”, Lærkesen explains that she wants to share her story to show that there are several ways to be a family.
– Some don’t understand why he can’t just be a father when I become a mother after all. And some people think it’s silly that I don’t just find someone else, says Lærkesen, adding that she thinks it’s nice that such stories have a platform.
