BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s inland metropolis Chongqing has enacted its own anti-espionage ordinance. China’s anti-espionage law went into effect in July, but it’s the first time it’s had rules at the local level.
The ordinance consists of 29 articles and is more specific than the anti-espionage law. It requires a strict monitoring system for foreign exchanges and travel, and requires overseas agencies and employees to formulate security plans.
The Ministry of State Security said on Aug. 31 that Chongqing reviewed and approved the regulations in July, praising its speedy response to implementation.
