“Practical politics isn’t bad, right? We can’t avoid politics, we appoint governors using politics, determine presidents use politics. What is not allowed is to make religious issues to beat other religions, to beat other races,” Cholil said in his statement, Thursday ( 2/2/2023).
The head of the Da’wah and Ukhuwah division of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) said there would be no problem if the ijtima of the ulama produced results that could be used as “the spirit of building the nation together”. He considered this to reflect the first precepts of Pancasila.
“If it is politicized in the sense of religion as a foundation by political parties, I think it’s good. If it gets misused like that, we will also reject the existence of ijtima ulema. The term ijtima ulema came from the MUI for the first time, the term was then used by others,” said Cholil.
Separately, PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin called the Jakarta Ulama Ijtima, a continuation of the ijtima of Ulama in West Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi. This forum, said Cak Imin, was a means of discussion and discussion of social and religious problems by scholars.
“In the end, there will be discussions about the 2024 gubernatorial election and the Nahdliyin residents in Jakarta, about the presidential election, and so on,” he said.
Cak Imin hopes that the Ijtima Ulama Jakarta can produce recommendations that can reduce conflicts to the threat of division ahead of the political year.
“The clerics and clerics in Jakarta will be determined to be part of efforts to create a more humane, more prosperous Jakarta,” he said.
