The Good Samaritan operated in the shadows. André Vieira, a multi-skilled worker at Michelin, has been secretly manufacturing at home, for a year now, handy little utensils for caregivers at the hospital in Cholet (Maine-et-Loire). “It was by reading an article about a young Canadian who first had the idea that I made up my mind” , he explains.
Comfort for caregivers
Thanks to a model, found on the 3D printing community of the Reddit community website, André makes flexible plastic parts, which the user slips between the two rubber bands of his mask. Thanks to this, friction behind the ears is avoided. “The goal is to have more comfort for the caregiver who must keep a mask all day” , indicate André Vieira.
€ 400 from his pocket
Since the start of the health crisis, the Choletais have delivered 2,000 ear protectors. All for free. “The plastic used costs me 30 € for every 150 pieces” , he adds. In total, André Vieira spent nearly € 400 to equip caregivers in Cholet. “I did this to make myself useful” , he confides.
