CCTV News Client reported that Sudanese media quoted officials from the Sudanese Ministry of Health as reporting that as of September 29, local time, 57 cholera cases had been confirmed in the East Nile region of Khartoum State, Sudan, and 6 people had died.
The Sudanese Ministry of Health issued a notification on September 25 that a cholera epidemic occurred in Gadarif State, with 264 suspected cases, 4 confirmed cases, and 16 deaths.
On September 29, the World Health Organization stated that it was investigating whether the cholera epidemic had spread to Khartoum and South Kordofan states. Both places have seen a large number of new acute diarrhea patients in recent days. Nima Abid, WHO representative in Sudan, warned that if a cholera outbreak breaks out, it will cause serious damage to Sudan’s already fragile health system.
