The King’s Commissioner in Flevoland, Leen Verbeek, expressed support for the mayors in the country during a four-day visit to Ukraine. Together with mayor Vitali Klitschko of the capital Kiev, he signed a statement calling for the reconstruction of the various Ukrainian communities.

Leen Verbeek is not only the king’s commissioner in Flevoland, but also chairman of the congress of local and regional authorities of the European Council. In that position, he traveled to Kiev last week, reports Broadcasting Flevoland.

“In light of the brutal war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, you, the mayors and local councilors, are a vivid example of the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people and local authorities in defending your country and democratic values,” Verbeek praised the perseverance of the mayors and municipal councilors in the country.

Verbeek spoke with various mayors and with minister Oleksiy Chermysjov about the possibilities for rebuilding the destroyed villages and towns. It is already clear that municipal authorities in the European Union want to work closely with their Ukrainian colleagues, as is apparent from a statement signed by Verbeek together with mayor Klitschko.
