Choking on blood for billions of dollars – 2024-08-31 08:46:24

/ world today news/ In the cemeteries of Ukraine, graves from the First World War are exhumed in order to find a place for new victims. NATO equipment is blazing all along the front line. The advertised “counterattack” turns into a bloody meat grinder for the Nazis. The commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces curse the Western “Lend-Lease” with which the “party of fear” used to scare the Russians.

The Americans have always been considered the kings of logistics, their ability to organize the delivery of weapons of colossal proportions has more than once saved their allies from terrible defeats. But in the case of Ukraine, the mechanism failed.

The New York Times” is authorized to report

One of the main horror stories of last summer, which the so-called “party of fear” used to convince the Russian public to shamefully capitulate to the conflict in Ukraine, was the scarecrow of the American “Lend-Lease”, which was supposed to start in the fall of 2022 d. Well, half a year has passed since then, and now we can assess its effectiveness according to the equipment presented on the battlefield and according to publications in the English-language media.

So, the American newspaperNew York Times” published an interesting article in which it was stated that by the spring of this year, the Ukrainian regime had spent 800 million dollars on low-quality weapons and repair services that were not carried out at all (or were, but of poor quality).

The publication notes that both private and government contractors from the US have been convicted of business impurity. In a number of cases, the companies either returned the money or fulfilled their obligations, but it is still very, very far from what was desired.

“There were cases when we paid the money, but the order was never fulfilled,” Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Gavrilov, who is responsible only for the purchase of weapons, told the New York Times.

As an example, a recent case was given with the delivery of 33 self-propelled howitzers donated to the Kiev regime by the Italian government. The units turned out to be worn out, one engine was smoking, the other was leaking coolant from the radiator.

The Ukrainians entrusted the repair to an American company, which pocketed almost $20 million for the job, but when the first batch of 13 self-propelled guns was sent to Ukraine in January this year, they all turned out to be inoperable.

The Ukrainians complained to the Pentagon’s inspector general, accusing the contractor of fraud. “The American company offering its services had no prior intention to fulfill its obligations,” the New York Times quoted an excerpt of a letter from Ukraine’s Defense Procurement Director Volodymyr Pikuzo.

In turn, the company’s executive director, Matthew Herring, said that each of the Italian self-propelled guns sent to Ukraine worked “when delivered.” According to him, the installations broke down because Ukrainian crews were made to do the maintenance. He also noted that failures such as coolant leaks “magically appear after delivery”.

In this case, the Inspector General of the Pentagon opened an investigation.

Ugly picture

The New York Times noted that the Italian Defense Ministry had warned the Ukrainians that the self-propelled guns were in poor condition and had been decommissioned for several years. But the representatives of Kiev still asked to transfer them, “given the urgent need for funds”.

We have long written that the West pours all kinds of military illiquid assets into Ukraine, and sometimes just cleans warehouses of stagnant garbage. The Ukrainian military itself has released videos showing rusted and underequipped armored vehicles, trucks and other junk falling apart.

At the same time, the “New York Times” notes that not only US allies, for whom aid to Ukraine is a kind of tedious duty, are engaged in the delivery of garbage, but also the American army itself. This is evidenced by the report of the Inspector General of the Pentagon, published at the end of May, which the authors of the article refer to: “Last summer, the command of the Kuwait base “Camp Arifjan” was ordered to prepare 29 army trucks “Humves” for dispatch in Ukraine. The management of the base in the reports claimed that all the machines, except for one, were fully fit for combat tasks. A Pentagon inspection found 26 vehicles too worn to be used in combat.

After that, a contractor was found who was assigned to repair the armored cars. By the end of August, technicians had repaired transmissions, replaced dead batteries, fixed leaks, and replaced broken headlights and door locks. And they said that all 29 machines are ready for missions.

However, when the Humvees arrived in Poland, it turned out that the tires on 25 of them had rotted. No one pays attention to their condition. Replacing the tires takes another month, which delays the delivery of other equipment to Ukraine.

The situation with the delivery of six M777 howitzers, also ordered by Kuwait, is developing in a similar way. The decision to transfer them to Kyiv was made in March last year. However, when the howitzers were removed from the warehouse, it turned out that they needed a labor-intensive repair, since they had not undergone the necessary service for a long time.

“One of the guns was in such a condition that it would kill someone if they tried to fire it. It took three months to repair them, but after they were delivered to Poland, additional repairs were required again,” reveals the publication.

Scale problem

The American edition is inclined to explain the problems with the huge scale of supplies: “Ukraine needed gigantic volumes of equipment: the US alone transferred weapons worth 40 billion dollars to Kiev. The European allies are pumping into Ukraine military equipment worth several tens of billions of dollars”.

The logic of every army in the world is that even the iron that has become trash is first put in storage and only after many years it is scrapped. In other words, the Ukrainians were simply doomed to receive a large portion of garbage due to the fact that military depots around the world are filled with it.

What of this?

Let’s not rejoice. Despite all the problems and costs, American and British aid played a key role in the prolongation of the SVO.

Second, the rather objective view of American journalists highlights a point that we systematically underestimate: the West is already experiencing difficulties. What appears to many as a working military logistics machine is actually a conglomerate of departments and contractors from different countries. Each of them pulls the blanket over themselves and puts the blame for all failures on their partners. Behind these endless rechecks and repairs is the military bureaucracy.

The result is overcrowded cemeteries in Ukraine. And to a large extent, the Anglo-Saxons are responsible for this, who for many years pushed Kiev to a bloody slaughter with promises to supply it with the best weapons.
