To sing in the “Juventus” University of Latvia choir, it is not necessary to be a student of this university. The main thing is singing ability and personality.
Linda Chipa also wants to become one of the “Juventus” team. Previously, she sang in another choir, then took a break, but now Linda wants to experience the greatness of the choir again. “Actually it was a kind suggestion from my previous conductor, thank you very much for that, I hope he saw something in me that this choir saw. And that’s how I ended up at Juventus… Not yet, hopefully I will arrive,” says the selection participant.
In two audition tours this week and next week, “Juventus” will select the young singers. Already in August, they will join the choir camp to become one unit before the upcoming season.
Valdis Thomsons, the artistic director of the “Juventus” choir, emphasizes: “The Song Festival season means that, in parallel with our seasonal plans, we also sing the Song Festival repertoire, as well as shows and choir wars, which is our big national competition. And, of course, that the Song itself festival, which is such a huge experience for any singer.”
Traditionally, the interest of young participants is greater during the Song Festival season. This year, the gaps created by the pandemic must also be filled.
“The pandemic has caused a lot of damage to the choir family,” admits Valdis Thomsons. “The line-up is solid, and we’re hoping for new singers, absolutely.”
“It’s emotions, it’s being together, it’s friends, adventures, environment, new horizons in which to refresh yourself,” describes the participation in the choir, “Juventus” president Kristine Rubene.
Another reception tour of new members in the “Juventus” choir is expected in September, when the auditoriums of the University of Latvia will be filled with freshmen.
