As Choi Won-jong refused to take a mug shot, the committee is known to have released a photo that can identify Choi Won-jong’s face among the data obtained during the police investigation.
According to the current law, the face, name, age, etc. of a suspect can be disclosed when there is sufficient evidence to believe that the suspect committed a specific violent crime in which the means of the crime was brutal and serious damage occurred.
Choi Won-jong is accused of driving a morning car at around 6:00 pm on the 3rd and driving into a bus stop in front of AK Plaza at Seohyeon Station on the Suin Bundang Line, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, attacking a passerby, and then entering a shopping mall and wielding an indiscriminate weapon.
A woman in her 60s who was hit by a car died and 13 others were injured in the incident.
Choi Won-jong was diagnosed with ‘schizoid personality disorder (schizoid personality disorder)’ in 2020, and it was investigated that he had not received psychiatric treatment for the last three years.
The police are investigating the details of the crime, assuming that Choi Won-jong, who suffered from mental illness but did not receive any treatment, committed the crime while suffering from delusions of persecution.
