At the ‘2023 Seoul Drama Awards’, Choi Min-sik and director Kang Yun-seong celebrated their special anniversary with ‘Casino’.
The ‘2023 Seoul Drama Awards’ was held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul on the 21st. The ‘Seoul Drama Awards’ is an international drama awards ceremony hosted by the Korea Broadcasting Association and the Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee, and is the world’s first event planned as a single drama awards ceremony in 2005. This year marks the 18th anniversary.
On this day, Choi Min-sik won the International Golden Bird Individual Award for ‘Casino’. ‘Casino’ tells the story of Cha Moo-sik (Choi Min-sik), a man who became a casino legend in the Philippines with no money and no background, but becomes embroiled in a murder case and begins to make the final bet that risks his life. This is director Kang Yun-seong’s first OTT challenge, whose ‘Crime City’ attracted 7 million viewers in 2017.
Choi Min-sik could not hide his joy and said, “I remember my colleagues who sweated together with me. I am happy to receive the award, but I want to give it to my colleagues. The ‘Casino’ staff who sacrificed their bodies day and night to handle the scorching heat and the huge amount of work, Kang Yun-seong “I would like to give this honor to all actors, including the director.”
The Best Picture award also went to ‘Casino’. Director Kang Yun-seong, who was in charge of directing and writing, also held up the trophy and said, “I was touched that Choi Min-sik won the award. He had a difficult time working on our work. Physically, the time was short. He overcame that well. It’s so overwhelming.” He said, “I am so grateful to those who gave me such a big award.
