CHMI extended the warning against extreme rainfall. There is also a risk of floods

“At some stations it has rained over 50 mm of precipitation in the last six hours (Nýdek, Filipka 64 mm, Jablunkov 60 mm, Lysá hora 50 mm). Due to heavy rain, the first degree of flood activity has been reached in some streams. with variable intensity to continue in the coming hours, “informed the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) early Wednesday morning.

Following this he issued inwarning of extreme precipitation with an extreme, ie the highest, degree of danger for the Moravian-Silesian Region, specifically Bohumín, Český Těšín, Frýdek-Místek, Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, Havířov, Jablunkov, Karvinou, Orlová and Třinec. Originally, it was valid only until 08:30, but the CHMI extended it. It is now in valid from 08:00 to 14:00.

“There is a risk of increased water runoff from the landscape, water flows through roads and their clogging by entrained material. Reduced visibility and risk of aquaplaning. Deteriorated drainage of rainwater through sewers. Risk of waterlogging and subsequent landslides, reduced stability of trees in waterlogged soil,” warns CHMI.

“In heavy rain, it is necessary to reduce the speed of driving and drive very carefully. Do not enter or enter flowing water and flooded places. Limit movement in waterlogged areas where there is a risk of falling trees or roads,” meteorologists recommend.

It is also in force in connection with heavy rainfall flood vigilance with a low degree of danger, which is valid from 08:00 to 18:00 for Zlín Region (Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Vsetín) a Moravian-Silesian Region (Bohumín, Český Těšín, Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Frýdek-Místek, Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, Havířov, Jablunkov, Karviná, Orlová, Třinec).

“Due to the already fallen precipitation during the night and the expected precipitation during the day, we assume increases in the levels of watercourses to the first stage of flood activity. Rarely, the second stage may be exceeded,” said CHMI.

“Precipitation will stop during the afternoon and evening, in the evening and at night
we expect the situation to calm down and the levels of the affected watercourses to gradually decrease, “he added.

The whole week is forecast to be rainy. The tropics will arrive in the Czech Republic again on Friday, but on Saturday meteorologists expect the crossing of the cold front, which will bring strong storms again. “On Friday, August 21, and on Saturday, August 22, the highest daily temperatures in some places will exceed 31 ° C. On Saturday, strong thunderstorms may occasionally occur when the cold front passes,” meteorologists warn.
