The plan comes from the new CEO Pat Gelsinger and should help Intel to better compete with rivals such as the Taiwanese TSMC and the South Korean Samsung Technologies. In recent years, Intel has actually struggled after several technological setbacks.
The new factories in Arizona at an existing Intel location will add 3,000 jobs. Intel will also work on new locations in the United States and Europe, said Gelsinger, who took office as the company’s CEO in February.
