/ world today news/ Four applicants have submitted documents for a concession at Plovdiv Airport, the bids are being opened today.

The requirements for applicants are to have over BGN 1 million in fixed capital and a balance sheet or market value of fixed tangible assets of no less than EUR 20 million. They must have experience of more than 5 years in the last 10 in operating an international airport with a passenger flow of more than 1 million passengers, as well as a cargo turnover of more than 40 thousand tons per year. Each applicant must have submitted a bank guarantee for participation in the amount of BGN 150,000. The criteria for evaluating the offers are the amount of the annual concession payment – with a relative weight of 40%, an investment program and a development program. The concession is for 35 years, during this period the concessionaire must necessarily invest no less than 35.267 million euros without VAT, 16.791 million of which only in the first five years. According to the general plan of the airport, valid until 2033, there must to build a cargo terminal, a second passenger terminal, a new fuel depot. The runway should be extended in the eastern direction by 400 m and reach 2,900 m.

Plovdiv Airport is located 12 km from the city, it was built in 1932 and until the 80s of the 20th century there were regular domestic flights. Subsequently, priority is given to cargo and charters. In 2009, the new terminal was opened. Currently, only Ryanair maintains regular flights to and from it with flights to Stansted, London.
