Now the man will be quarantined for 7 days. The official said that Chinese tourists who are quarantined pay about US$8 or about Rs124,000 for PCR testing and US$150 per day for the quarantine facility.
This cost is added to the drug because they have no health insurance coverage in South Korea.
“We plan to investigate him once his solitary confinement ends,” a police statement said.
The unnamed tourist arrived at Incheon International Airport on Tuesday (3/1) evening. He was then transferred to a hotel to be quarantined, but suddenly disappeared while waiting his turn to enter.
Authorities then hunted him down by placing his name on the Most Wanted List (RPD).
South Korean health official Kim Joo Young said the tourist could be sentenced to a year in prison or a fine of 10 million won (equivalent to 122 million rupees) if found in violation of the disease control and prevention law.
“That person will be deported and banned from entering South Korea for a period of time,” Kim said at a news conference.
South Korean officials are now considering stopping issuance of short-term travel visas at Korean consulates in China.
