Chinese Tourist Shocked by Durian Fine at W Singapore Hotel

It looks like this tourist case can be a lesson for us when staying at hotels. He brought the durians to the hotel room and the next morning he was given a fine.

reported Asiaone, Friday (28/7/2023) this Chinese tourist was shocked when in the morning he found in his room a warning letter from the W Singapore hotel in his room. The letter was related to the durian scent that was in his room.

“Let me tell you all something serious. You can’t eat durian while in a Singapore hotel room,” the woman wrote in the post. Xiaohongshu, Sunday (23/7).

Investigate a story, the tourist’s excitement brought to his room the super durian ‘Musang King’ which makes you drool because of its seductive yellow color. He bought the durian after having dinner with his family outside the hotel.

On their way home, they accidentally found a stall selling durian. Then, they decided to buy because it was rare to find this type of durian.

He put this durian in a plastic ziplock and intended to eat it at night in his hotel room.

Jeng..jeng… unexpectedly the next day, he got a warning letter.

The letter detailed ‘Due to the pungent and unique smell of durian, please do not bring it into the hotel room’.

“We understand that durian is a delicacy that is liked by many people, but its strong aroma often lingers and can affect the experience of subsequent guests staying in the room,” the warning letter read.

The letter clearly states that guests will be fined USD 500 if hotel staff detects the smell of durian in their room. This amount of money will be used to cover additional cleaning costs.

“I know that durians are not allowed on public transport in Singapore but I never thought that durians are not allowed in hotel rooms or room balconies,” the tourist wrote in his post.

The tourist was lucky, because the hotel still made concessions for his first offence. He did not spend Rp. 5 million.

“Fortunately, the hotel said that fines can be waived for first time offenders… Thank God, and thank you W Singapore for your understanding management. I will not do that again,” said the guest.
