Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Chinese technology giant Tencent has reportedly closed one of its video game studios in the United States (US). In fact, the branch in the US was previously Tencent’s attempt to develop a competitive gaming business for the Western market.

The report of the closure came from a source who declined to give his name. Eurogamer.net was the first to report the closure.

The studio that closed was Team Kaiju last June. Studio staff have been asked to work on other games under Tencent in line with the closure, quoted from Reuters, Tuesday (19/12/2023).

Team Kaiju is a studio that works on big-budget multi-player games. The studio is led by game designer Scott Warner, who was recruited in 2020.

His recruitment is the biggest because he is the director for famous titles such as Halo 4. Warner is known to have left Team Kaiju since last April.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the Team Kaiju website is no longer active. Tencent was reluctant to comment regarding the closure.

Tencent is a Chinese technology giant that is also successful in the gaming industry. The company is known for developing popular mobile games such as PUBG Mobile.

Recently, Tencent has been known to be targeting the international market for its gaming business unit. The company is said to be trying to build studios abroad and develop games for foreign markets.

One thing that is done is Last Sentinel. The game console was launched earlier that month by 200 people at LA’s Lightspeed game studio.
