China is one of the countries where the infrastructure for electric cars is really booming at an incredible pace and one of the reasons is the action of the technological giant and today also the manufacturer of electric cars Nio. This company recently introduced a new version of the station for exchanging electric car batteries.
The third generation of this device has a system that automatically guides the car into the correct position and then replaces the batteries in just three minutes. It can handle 408 such operations per day, which is 30% more than the previous generation. A thousand of these Nio stations will be installed in China this year, 400 of them along toll roads, 600 in cities.
Nio currently operates 1,300 battery exchange stations in China, but not all customers can use them. They are intended for those who did not buy the battery directly, but chose to rent it. This reduces the cost of purchasing a car. Instead of the price of the battery, customers are charged a monthly fee for its use.
Web South China Morning Post states that the new stations will also support Nio’s new sister brands like Alps and Firefly. “We hope to greatly expand our services and network and bring a better user experience to car owners,” said Nio Power Vice President Shen Fej.
Nio reportedly plans to install 4,000 battery exchange stations around the world by 2025, 1,000 of which will be located outside of China. In Norway, where the electric SUV ES8 is on sale for a price of around 1.3 million crowns, two battery exchange stations are already operating. Most customers choose to rent a battery for a monthly fee of approximately 3,400 crowns.
