[The Epoch Times, January 4, 2024](Epoch Times reporter Li Yun reported) Recently, many Chinese students had their visas canceled and deported when they entered the United States. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China admitted that in recent months, dozens of people going to the United States, including Chinese students, have been repatriated every month.
Comprehensive Chinese media reported on January 4 that when many Chinese students entered the United States recently, they were interrogated for a long time, and their mobile phones, computers and other portable electronic devices were also inspected. Some students had their visas canceled and were told they were not allowed to enter the United States for five years.
Among them, Mr. T, a Chinese international student, is a doctoral student at Yale University and his undergraduate degree is from a first-class university in Beijing.
On December 19, 2023, he returned to the United States from China and entered the country at Dulles Airport near Washington. After asking about T’s major, the airport customs took him to the inquiry room for eight hours and asked him whether he had received scholarships during his undergraduate studies, whether he had been funded by the Chinese Communist Party authorities, etc., and also checked his portable electronic devices.
After the interrogation, Mr. T was informed that his F-1 visa to study abroad had been canceled and he would not be allowed to enter the United States for 5 years.
Another Chinese international student under investigation, M, went to the National Cancer Center of the National Institutes of Health in 2022 to conduct research.
On November 22, 2023, when M entered the country at Dulles Airport, he was taken to the interrogation room for interrogation. He was mainly asked about his university department, tutor information, whether his current research content was funded by the CCP authorities to study abroad, and whether his scientific research plan was related to the CCP. Government, military, key laboratories, etc.
After the interrogation, the U.S. airport customs law enforcement officers informed Mr. M that his F-1 visa had been canceled and was directly canceled by the U.S. State Department.
Dozens of Chinese people going to the United States are deported every month
In this regard, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China, revealed during a regular press conference on January 4. In recent months, dozens of Chinese people, including international students, going to the United States have been forcibly repatriated by the United States every month.
Wang Wenbin claimed that China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to this.
Chinese students and scholars suspected of espionage in the United States
For years, U.S. intelligence agencies have warned that Chinese students and scholars affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party’s military engage in espionage and intellectual property theft in the United States, posing national security risks to the United States.
In May 2020, the Trump administration issued Executive Order 10043, banning Chinese students and scholars with F visas (student visas) and J visas (visiting scholar visas) who are related to the Chinese Communist Party’s military from entering the United States.
After the Biden administration took office, it resumed issuing visas to Chinese students in May 2021. At the same time, it began to check the mobile phones of Chinese students and repatriate problematic Chinese students.
In May of the same year, a Chinese student who planned to study in the United States was denied a visa by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate because his father was a CCP policeman. At that time, the U.S. Embassy confirmed that the United States had stopped issuing visas to the spouses and children of active-duty personnel in the Chinese Communist Party’s Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Security, and Ministry of Public Security.
In August 2021, three Chinese students were deported by US Customs when entering the United States at the Houston Airport. The reason was that they had military training photos on their mobile phones, which the United States identified as being funded by the Chinese Communist authorities and suspected that they had military backgrounds.
In August 2023, many more Chinese students were repatriated. One of the international students was deported by U.S. law enforcement officials because his messages in a social software group chat included support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; another international student was deported because he concealed his work experience in his visa application materials.
In addition to the United States, in November 2023, a Chinese student in France was arrested and deported for supporting Hamas and suspected of “glorifying terrorism” and was banned from entering for three years.
