There are beautiful beaches in the eastern part of Oaxaca, Mexico, but they are inferior to those in the south and are located in a remote area. Few foreign tourists set foot here. However, since last year, 33-year-old local reporter Jose Ignacio has been meeting Chinese people on the road almost every day. They are not tourists coming to the beach for vacation, but Chinese stowaways on their way to the United States. The eastern part of Oaxaca is the only place that immigrants must pass through to “Runmei” through Mexico.
March 29 is “Good Friday” before Easter. On this day, most Mexicans will reunite with their families and go to church to pray. Jose also took a day off to have dinner with his family on this day, but unexpectedly received a breaking news report: local fishermen found multiple bodies on the beach.
Jose immediately drove to the scene of the incident, which was a deserted beach where the bodies of eight victims were laid out. Jose immediately noticed that they were probably Chinese. The victim did not have a life jacket, only a sports shirt, lying on the shallow beach where the waves kept crashing. Some people’s clothes were turned over their heads by the waves and they were not fully clothed. They and the “American Dream” they cherished were buried in the roaring waves of Oaxaca.
Next to him was a middle-aged man wearing a pink Polo shirt, soaked to the skin, looking sad and crying. Jose quickly took out his mobile phone and used translation software to communicate with him.
The man confirmed to Jose that he and the victims were both Chinese illegal immigrants. Led by a Mexican boatman, the group boarded the boat in the southern Mexican border city of Tapachula. Their destination was Oaxaca. They planned to continue northward by land and enter the United States after landing. Unexpectedly, the boat capsized near Playa Vicente in eastern Oaxaca, and all the passengers except him drowned. He managed to survive with the help of a suitcase’s buoyancy. He told Jose that his wife and son were among the passengers who drowned.

Duan Media exclusively learned that the survivor who spoke to Jose was named Huang Zhongjin, a 50-year-old native of Fujian. End Media confirmed with the Office of the Attorney General of Oaxaca that the eight victims found on the beach were all Chinese citizens, including seven women and one man. Only Huang Zhongjin survived, and the whereabouts of the Mexican crew members are unknown. The prosecutor said that Huang Zhongjin is currently in good physical condition and has only minor trauma. He is under witness protection by the Mexican Immigration Service and is cooperating with the investigation. He is still stranded in Oaxaca.
