According to official figures released on May 24 by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s software industry revenue grew 25 percent year-on-year during the first four months of this year to rise to 2,571.9 billion yuan ($ 401.2 billion), marking a slowdown of 1.5 percentage points from the first three months of the year, while the average growth rate annual for the past two years was 11.7%.
More specifically, the sales figures for software and computer services increased by 23.5% and 26.8% respectively to reach 682.3 billion and 1622.2 billion yuan, of which 227 billion yuan in the total for sales of cloud computing and big data services. Meanwhile, sales of computer security products and services grew 28.4 percent to 38.4 billion yuan.
From January to April, the sector’s exports increased 14.5% year-on-year to $ 14.9 billion, the level observed in the same period of 2019.
Total industry profit rose 20.5% to 288.5 billion yuan, a slowdown of 5.4 percentage points from the first three months of the year, against an average growth rate 8.5% annual rate for the last two years.
From January to April, the average number of people working in the sector was 7.11 million, 5.8% more than the same period last year. Total wages rose 11%, up 0.4 percentage point from the first three months of the year, while the average annual growth rate for the past two years was 5.6% .
