A loss for Apple and Samsung is a gain for the brands for smartphones Chinese in Russia According to the popular consumer electronics store MVideo-Eldorado, Chinese smartphones dominated the Russian market in the first half of 2023, accounting for more than 70% of all sales.
The figure was up from about 55% the year before, with nearly 13 million units sold, overall smartphone demand in Russia was up 17% compared to the same time last year.
“Brands from China continue to systematically strengthen their presence,” said MVideo, adding that flagship models and foldable smartphones from Trademarks The Chinese are in special demand.
It said that eight out of 10 smartphones sold in Russia in the first six months of this year were Chinese.
The change in the smartphone market is also reflected in Russia’s roads. Since the majority of Western brands officially left the Russian market in early 2022 after the Ukraine war, Beijing has become Moscow’s go-to source for everything from gadgets to cars.
No iPhone for officials
The Kremlin reportedly asked officials to stop using Apple’s iPhones, saying that Western intelligence agencies had hacked them using surveillance software. However, Apple denied the allegations.
