/ world today news/ Chinese scientists have developed a new electronic skin, which they say has “excellent isothermal regulation”.
The Southern University of Science and Technology team has developed thermo-e-skin with biomimetic structures, which mimics the human body’s thermoregulation mechanism by integrating a flexible thermoelectric device with a hydrogel composite material.
Through a delicate balance of heat generation and dissipation, the electronic skin maintains a stable surface temperature of 35 degrees Celsius over a wide range of ambient temperatures from 10 to 45 degrees.
In recent years, electronic skin has realized human-like haptic functions and formed stable reverse neurofeedback, imitating the human body to varying degrees. This makes it an ideal component for future intelligent robots. However, the thermoregulatory function is limited to simple heating or cooling, which means that it is unable to maintain isothermal regulation for a long time in complex and changing environments.
The research of the Chinese scientists was published in the journal Nano Energy.
