JAKARTA – Mars indeed a planet that is often talked about. Also, the spread of the theory that the Red Planet can be visited and inhabited by man.
Indeed, Mars has experienced several earth-shattering events. One of them, the flood disaster that occurred there.
Reported by ZME Science on Sunday (13/11/2022), the Chinese rover Zhurong has discovered a sediment that appeared on Mars.
It is known that the sediments were formed as a result of a flood disaster that occurred millions of years ago.
The rover with ground-penetrating radar identified two horizontal layers under its landing site at Utopia Planitia, north of Mars.
“Utopia Planitia, a smooth plain of volcanic layers and sediments that fills Utopia’s impact crater, became a prime target for such exploration because it was concluded to harbor ancient oceans on Mars,” the study authors wrote.
When viewed, no water is found there, but each layer at a depth of 10-80 meters has smaller rocks scattered on top of the larger ones.
Scientists think this may have been caused by flooding. The oldest, deepest and thickest layers are found between 30 and 80 meters below ground. It is possible that the layers were formed by a flood that may have occurred millions to three billion years ago.
Previous exploration missions to Mars have also shown that there was once water on the planet’s surface, as well as major floods.
In addition, in 2016, NASA reported the discovery of a series of underground ice in the region, the volume of which is equivalent to the water of Lake Superior.
These discoveries made it even more convincing that the planet Mars had been hit by a great flood.
