Chinese Scientist Doesn’t Rule Out Lab Leak as Possible Origin of COVID-19 in Wuhan Institute of Virology

A high-ranking Chinese scientist considered that the possibility of the Corona virus leaking from a Chinese laboratory should not be ruled out, referring to the suspected laboratory in Wuhan, in the center of the country.

Said the former head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control Professor George Gow, to the BBC: “You can always doubt anything. This is science so don’t rule anything out.”

Attention turns again to the “Wuhan Institute”

  • Wuhan, the city where the virus was first discovered, is home to one of the largest national laboratories in China known to have spent years studying coronaviruses, the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
  • The Chinese government rejects any suggestion that the virus may have originated in a Wuhan laboratory.
  • The theory of the virus leaking from the laboratory re-emerged last February, when the director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said, “This is where (the virus) most likely originated.”“.
  • Many scientists say the evidence indicates a natural origin, a virus that passed from animals to humans, is the most likely scenario.
  • In a report seen by The Wall Street Journal, four other US agencies agreed with the FBI, saying “a lab leak likely occurred.”

What did the veteran Chinese scientist say?

George Gao touched on this theory in his talk, and said:

  • An official investigation was carried out at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and this laboratory was checked twice by experts in this field“.
  • “I think their conclusion is that they are following all protocols. They didn’t find[any]fault.”
  • “But you can always doubt anything. This is science, so don’t rule anything out.”

How did China respond to reports of a “lab leak”?

The Chinese embassy in Britain told the BBC, “The so-called laboratory leak is a lie made by the anti-Chinese forces, and it is politically motivated and has no scientific basis.”“.

Earlier this year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said, “The involvement of the US intelligence community was sufficient evidence of the politicization of traceability.”

“By restating the lab leak theory, the United States will not succeed in discrediting China, instead it will only damage its credibility,” the spokeswoman added.“.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry urged the United States to “respect science and facts, stop turning asset tracking into something related to politics and intelligence, and stop disrupting social solidarity and cooperation between sides.”

When did “Covid 19” first begin to spread?

  • In December 2019, a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan was reported to the World Health Organization.
  • In January 2020, it was announced that a new coronavirus had been identified (SARS-CoV-2) from patient samples.
  • A month later, the virus was officially named “SARS-CoV-2”The disease caused by it was given a name “Covid 19”.
