With Chinese President Xi Jinping absent from the G20 summit without explanation, China must explain the reason for his absence, a U.S. official said.
According to Reuters, Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer said ahead of the G20 summit held in New Delhi, India on the 9th (local time), “Only the Chinese leader (Xi Jinping) has an obligation to explain why he did not participate in this event.” said.
He said the United States is often asked to provide an explanation for the Chinese government’s actions, but that is not the United States’ role. It is unfortunate that China does not participate in the prosperity of the G20 bloc.
“Some are analyzing China’s absence as an attempt to give up on the G20 and build an alternative world order to give privileges to groups like BRICS,” said Finer, adding, “If China does not work for the success of the G20, this will “It would be particularly unfortunate for China,” he said.
He said, “India, which chairs this year’s G20 summit, is doing its best to make the G20 summit a success along with the next chair countries, Brazil (2024), South Africa (2025), and the United States (2026).” added.
Previously, President Xi decided to send Prime Minister Li Chang instead of attending the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit held in Indonesia this week and the G20 summit held in India.
Initially, U.S. President Joe Biden hoped to use these meetings as an opportunity to hold a U.S.-China summit with President Xi, but the White House dismissed President Biden’s intention to meet individually with Premier Li Chang, effectively canceling the U.S.-China summit.
