Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Thursday, emphasizing China’s “firm commitment” to maintaining “stable, healthy and sustainable” China-US relations.
At the meeting, Xi Jinping asked the United States to consider China and its development “in a positive and rational way (…) as an opportunity rather than a challenge” and to do the same “to find the right way for the two great countries to get along.”
The meeting in this capital, months before the end of Joe Biden’s administration, takes place within the framework of a three-day trip by Sullivan to Beijing, during which he previously met with Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister.
According to an information card released by the Chinese government, President Xi noted that amid changes and turbulence, “countries need solidarity and coordination, not division and confrontation. People want openness and progress, not exclusion and regression.”
“As two major countries, China and the United States should be responsible for history, the people and the world, and should be a source of stability for world peace and a driving force for common development,” he stressed.
