Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s Four-Point Proposal at Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Summit

Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Summit via video link in Beijing on Monday.

At the summit, co-chaired by Li Qiang and Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing, Li put forward a four-point proposal to strengthen Lancang-Mekong cooperation. Li Qiang said, firstly, integrated development should be deepened and open cooperation should be adhered to. In this context, China will provide special loans for the joint development of Lancang-Mekong cooperation to support priority projects of various countries. Second, environmentally friendly cooperation should be promoted and the rights and interests of various countries in the reasonable development and use of water resources should be fully respected. Third, security management should be strengthened and common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security coordinated. Fourthly, cultural exchange should be expanded.

It was announced at the summit that Thailand would serve as the next joint chair of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.
