Corona vaccine from China has entered Indonesia. Vaccine this will undergo phase III clinical trials conducted by PT Bio Farma (Persero) before being circulated to the public.
Acting Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah said vaccine has just arrived in Jakarta on Sunday (7/20) yesterday.
“Entered Jakarta yesterday (Sunday, 7/19/2020),” he told detikcom, Monday (7/20/2020).
Upon arrival in Indonesia the vaccine was immediately handed over to PT Bio Farma (Persero) and brought to Bandung to begin clinical trials in humans. However, Teuku did not give details of the trial location in Bandung and will involve how many volunteers in the process.
“To my knowledge, Bio Farma has received the cargo since arrival at CGK (Soekarno Hatta International Airport) and then brought it to Bandung,” he added.
Previously, Bio Farma announced that it would conduct a clinical trial of this July 2020 vaccine and be developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University (FK Unpad) Bandung.
“We will conduct clinical phase 3 trials together with FK Unpad. The plan will begin in July 2020,” said Bio Farma President Director Honesti Basyir to detikcom, Wednesday (06/10/2020).
Honesti explained that the clinical trial of this vaccine would be tested directly on humans to determine its effectiveness and safety in preventing the virus from infecting its host.
For vaccine seeds and concentrates from Sinovac or those brought from China.
“Vaccines for clinical trials from Sinovac, for our production we use bulk vaccines from them too,” he added.
Not only that, Sinovac also plays a role in technology transfer during the vaccine production stage. The plan, Bio Farma together with Sinovac will start actively producing this COVID-19 vaccine in the coming quarter I-2021.
“Technology transfer during the vaccine production process in the first quarter of 2021,” he added.
