Chinese brands that want to try it on the European car market: we now know dozens of them, but only a handful have actually succeeded. The Chinese NIO wants to try it in 2021.

Since 2016, some information about the Chinese NIO has slowly been trickling onto the web. With the electric ES8 it all had to happen, who was later joined by the also electric ES6 in by EC6. Until now, however, the brand has only remained available on its home market in China with hefty prices. For example, the ES8 costs at least € 60,000 converted.
At the beginning of this summer, NIO’s president Lihong Qin told Automotive News Europe that NIO first wanted to roll out its cars to other markets in Asia around China. Then it would be Europe’s turn in a short time. However, CEO William Li now declares to the medium that Europe will be next sooner than was initially reported by Qin. According to Li, NIO should be available in various European markets in the second half of next year. Unfortunately, it is not clear which European countries he means by this.
In Europe, NIO would like to get started with ‘BaaS’: Battery as a Service. In addition, the battery, the most expensive part of an EV, is leased instead of sold. Like Renault does, for example, with the Zoe. As a result, the purchase prices would be considerably lower.
