Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Imposes Sanctions on US Arms Companies Over Taiwan Sales

On Jan. 7, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced sanctions on five U.S. arms companies. Chinese authorities will take measures to freeze their assets. and prohibit Chinese people or various organizations in China from contacting and coordinating The companies include BAE Systems Land and Armaments, Alliant Tech Systems Operations. Aerovirus Company Viasat Company and Data Link Solutions Company after the Chinese government verified that It is a company hired by the US government to produce weapons and equipment for the Taiwanese government.

The Chinese government’s sanctions come after the US government in December approved the sale of equipment worth US$300 million or more than 10.8 billion baht to the Taiwan government. To develop the tactical information system of the Taiwan Army which the Chinese government views as seriously undermining China’s sovereignty and security interests. It also threatens the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait. The US Embassy in Beijing, China Still refusing to comment on this matter.

As the Taiwan government prepares to hold a general election on January 13, amid speculation that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party may win.
