Chinese Military Conducts Routine Patrols in South China Sea Amid Rising Tensions and Disputed Territories

The Chinese military will carry out routine patrols with its navy and air force in the South China Sea today and tomorrow, Reuters reported, citing the command of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of China, reports BTA.

The agency notes that this is happening at a time when tension continues to build up in the region because of the disputed territories.

According to the Chinese command, troops in this area will be on high alert at all times and will protect national sovereignty, security and maritime rights.

The patrols also aim to deter activities that constitute violations in the South China Sea and create “hot spots,” the Chinese military’s Southern Military District Command added.

The maneuvers come at a time when China faces rising tensions in the region, particularly with the Philippines. Both sides have recently exchanged numerous accusations in a repeated confrontation in the South China Sea.
