Chinese MFA meets with Malian counterpart

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop on Tuesday in Dakar, the Senegalese capital.

China and Mali have supported each other since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1960, Wang said at a meeting on the sidelines of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FCSA).

China respects Mali’s efforts to advance the political transition in accordance with the will of the Malian people and supports Mali’s reasonable concerns and efforts to protect the country’s legitimate rights, he said.

Beijing wishes to deepen its practical cooperation with Bamako while implementing the nine programs announced by President Xi Jinping on Sino-African cooperation, as well as to ensure that traditional friendship translates into tangible results that benefit the Chinese people. and Malian, continued Mr. Wang.

The programs Xi announced Monday at the opening of the Ministerial Conference focus on medicine and health, poverty reduction and agricultural development, trade promotion, investment promotion, digital innovation, green development, capacity building, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, peace and security.

Wang Yi thanked Mali for timely dispatching security forces to successfully secure the release of kidnapped Chinese nationals, saying the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese government uphold people-centered governance and care about the safety and security of every citizen abroad.

He urged Mali to take effective measures to guarantee the safety and security of Chinese entities and nationals in Mali.

Mr. Diop for his part said that the comprehensive and vigorous cooperation between Mali and China had played an important role in the economic and social development of his country.

He thanked the Chinese side for defending justice and equity for Mali in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations.

Mali attaches great importance to China’s concerns and will do everything possible to protect the safety and security of Chinese nationals in Mali, assured Abdoulaye Diop, assuring that his country was ready to strengthen its coordination and cooperation with the China.
