A Chinese mainland official on Wednesday criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for their contradictory stance on a comprehensive cross-Strait economic pact aimed at reducing trade barriers.
Despite repeatedly asserting that they do not want to terminate the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), PDP authorities have attempted to seek economic “decoupling”, hindering trade and cooperation economic relations between the two sides of the Strait, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
While the mainland has fulfilled its commitments since signing the agreement in 2010, DPP authorities have consistently created obstacles instead of lifting discriminatory trade restrictions, Chen said. Such action not only seriously hampers the implementation of the ECFA, but also violates the World Trade Organization’s principle of non-discrimination, he added.
