Chinese police stations in the Netherlands must close their doors immediately, Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Foreign Affairs) decided. He calls the agencies, which were set up without the knowledge of the Dutch government, “unacceptable”.
On paper, Chinese police stations only deal with administrative matters for Chinese residing in the Netherlands. For example, they can renew their driving license.
But there are also strong indications that these police stations are also being used to monitor and possibly pressure critical Chinese in the Netherlands. This was revealed last week by a search for RTL news in Follow the money.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already announced at that moment that the appropriate measures would be taken. “We take it very seriously.”
