Chinese House Prices Decrease in June Amidst Market Slowdown

BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) — Official data released last Saturday revealed that fewer Chinese cities recorded monthly house price increases in June.

And the National Statistics Authority indicated that last month, 31 cities out of 70 large and medium-sized cities witnessed monthly increases in new house prices, down from 46 in May.

Meanwhile, only seven cities saw resale home prices rise, compared with 15 in May.

Prices of new homes in the four first-tier cities — Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou — remained stable in June, compared with growth of 0.1 percent in May.

In 31 second-tier cities, new house prices were unchanged from May, while new house prices in 35 third-tier cities fell 0.1 percent.

Compared with June last year, new house prices in first-tier cities and second-tier cities increased by 1.3 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively, while new house prices in third-tier cities fell by 1.4 percent.

The data showed that the prices of resale homes witnessed a year-on-year decline in June, showing that those homes in first-tier cities decreased by 0.4 percent from last year, while their prices in second and third-tier cities decreased by 2.4 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively. . /ts/
