Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaSince last week, there has been widespread news that Chinese authorities have blocked the use of iPhones for government employees and companies affiliated with the government.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) finally responded to this. According to official statements, Xi Jinping’s government has not issued a ban on the purchase and use of foreign cellphone brands.

China has not issued any rules, regulations or policy documents that prohibit the purchase and use of foreign brands of cellphones such as Apple,” said spokesperson for Foreign Minister Mao Ning at a regular press conference when asked by journalists, quoted from ReutersThursday (14/9/2023).

Nevertheless, Ning said the government continues to monitor security issues in the iPhone line. According to him, there have been many media reports reporting security incidents on cellphones made by Apple.

“Recently we have seen a lot of media uncovering security incidents related to Apple cellphones. The Chinese government is very concerned about cyber security, both for domestic and foreign companies,” he said.

It is known that several media such as the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Bloomberg reported that several civil servants and BUMN staff had been ordered by their superiors to ban iPhones in the work environment.

This news emerged amidst ongoing tensions between Beijing and Washington. Moreover, this news caused an uproar in the technology industry and caused Apple’s shares to plummet ahead of the launch of the iPhone 15.

Mao appealed to all HP companies to strictly comply with laws and regulations in China, namely by strengthening their information security management.
