The administration of Taiwanese President Cai Yiwen announced that the president will meet six members of the British-Taiwan All-Party Parliamentary Group on Monday.
Shortly after this announcement, the Chinese embassy in London commented that “British officials have insisted on a visit to Taiwan despite Chinese objections”https://www.delfi.lv/news/arzemes/.” This is an interference in China’s internal affairs and a wrong signal of Taiwan’s independence separatist forces. We want to warn the British politicians involved that if Beijing senses a threat that could harm China’s interests, it will act,” the embassy explained.
This is not the first time that foreign officials have visited Taiwan. China regularly condemns these visits.
China sees the democratically governed Taiwan as part of its territory. To reinforce this belief, Beijing has recently been gradually increasing military, political and economic pressure on Taipei.
