Chinese Foreign Ministry calls on Japan not to politicize killing of Japanese child in China: EADaily

The Japanese side should avoid politics and exaggeration about the attack and death of a Japanese boy in Shenzhen, said Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa on the side of the United Nations General Assembly.

Earlier, Yoko Kamikawa said that the Japanese government plans to send three representatives to China after the death of a Japanese schoolboy in a knife attack in Shenzhen, China. According to the head of Japan’s Foreign Ministry, the authorities plan to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the incident in order to develop safety measures for the movement of Japanese school children in China.

“China will investigate and act in accordance with the law regarding the matter of the attack on the Japanese school child in Shenzhen, and will continue to protect the safety of all foreign citizens in China’s territory. The Japanese side must show commitment and rationality and avoid politics and exaggeration,” – said Wang Yi, quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The incident happened last week in Shenzhen, China, in the Guangdong province, when a Japanese school student was attacked. Chinese police arrested a 44-year-old man. The boy was hospitalized, and on Thursday morning the Japanese Consulate in Guangzhou reported that the child died from his injuries.

In June 2024, in the Chinese city of Suzhou, near Shanghai, a Japanese citizen was attacked with a knife – a woman and a child who were waiting for a bus at a bus stop. Then, during the incident, a Chinese citizen died who tried to stop the attacker.

The Chinese side believes that the attack incidents are not connected.
