Chinese Fighter Jets Enter Taiwan Defense Zone in Largest Infiltration

Taipei

China deploy 25 fighter to the air defense identification zone Taiwan on Monday (12/4). The deployment has been described as the biggest infiltration by China since Taiwan reported such activity since September last year.

As reported CNN, Tuesday (13/4/2021), Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense reported that 25 fighter planes sent by the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) consisted of 14 J-16 fighter jets, four J-10 fighter jets, four H-6K bombers , two anti-submarine warplanes and one early warning and air control aircraft.

The decision to deploy fighter jets to Taiwanese territory came a day after the Foreign Minister United States of America (US), Antony Blinken, warned China that the US is committed to defending Taiwan, which China considers part of its sovereign territory.

Taiwan is taking action to deploy fighter jets, missile defense systems and release radio alerts to Chinese planes that they have entered the southwest corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

A chart published by Taiwan shows the flight path of Chinese planes coming to and from mainland China, making a 180-degree turn between the main Taiwan island and Pratas Island, southeast of Hong Kong.

Since last September, Taiwan began posting regular updates to PLA flights near the island. Previously, on March 26, 20 jets entered the ADIZ Taiwan area, the most at that time.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines ADIZ as “defined airspace over land or waters over which a country requires identification, location and control of air traffic in the interest of that country’s national security.”
