Swimming World Championships: Cheng Wentao/Shi Haoyu won the mixed doubles championship in the Chinese diving team and won 12 gold medals
China News Agency, Fukuoka, Japan, July 22 (Reporter Hao Lingyu) On the 22nd, both the synchronized swimming and diving events of the Fukuoka Swimming World Championships entered the final competition day. In the synchronized swimming mixed doubles free choice final, the Chinese team Cheng Wentao/Shi Haoyu performed well and won the gold medal with 225.1020 points. Zhu Zifeng/Lin Shan won the mixed doubles 3-meter springboard gold medal and helped the Chinese diving team win the 12th gold medal in the World Championships.
At the 2022 Budapest Swimming World Championships, Shi Haoyu and teammate Zhang Yiyao won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles free choice competition. In the preliminaries of this World Championships, Shi Haoyu’s partner Cheng Wentao advanced to the first place in the preliminaries, and the movement difficulty score declared in the competition ranked first among the combinations participating in the preliminaries.
In the final, the movements declared by the Chinese team were still quite difficult. Cheng Wentao and Shi Haoyu conquered the referees with the opening two neat lifts and powerful movements, and finally won the gold medal with 225.1020 points.
Compared with the preliminaries, the actions of the two in the finals have changed. Cheng Wentao explained that although the results were good in the preliminaries, one of the lifts was deducted from the benchmark score, so corresponding adjustments were made in the finals, and a new set of movements was added, which finally achieved good results.
Prior to this, Shi Haoyu won the championship with the team in the collective skills optional final and became the first Chinese male synchronized swimmer to win a gold medal at the World Championships. He believes that the biggest personal gain from this World Championships is that he has gained experience in his heart. “The link of waiting for scores in this competition is very tormented. When preparing to go on stage, the scores of the previous teams are delayed. After finishing the movements, you have to wait for your own scores on the top.” He said that these experiences will make his psychological endurance stronger.
In the diving mixed doubles 3-meter springboard final, the Chinese team Zhu Zifeng/Lin Shan performed well. They ranked first in the five rounds of action scores. They won the gold medal with 326.10 points and won the 12th gold for the Chinese diving team in this World Championships.
Chinese players Lian Junjie and Yang Hao made mistakes of varying degrees in the men’s single 10-meter platform diving final, and finally won the silver and bronze medals respectively, while Australian Cahill Russo won the gold. After the game, Yang Hao said that he had a physical problem before the game, so he couldn’t keep up with his physical fitness during the game, and his performance was affected.
The Chinese Synchronized Swimming Team won a total of 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the World Championships, and the Chinese Diving Team finished with 12 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes.
