DIGITAL – Respect for the environment and eco-responsibility are becoming essential issues for all businesses. Have you already thought about these environmental issues? Do you intend to go further, and in what way?
JAMES DYSON – We developed a vacuum cleaner that doesn’t need a bag, so we got rid of these pollutants 20 years ago. In addition, our multicyclonic technology has made it possible to put an end to the phenomenon of loss of aspiration which necessarily induces a waste of energy, and therefore of resources. On this subject, two years ago, the vacuum cleaner manufacturers boasted that their devices reached 2400 W. But our stick vacuum cleaners with batteries do not exceed 200 W and show similar performance. In addition, they are much lighter, require less material for their construction. As a result, they are much less harmful to the environment.
Our hand dryers use only 10% of the energy of a conventional hand dryer, because they do not incorporate any electrical resistance to produce heat. Only the air stream is used to dry the hands. And, of course, by dispensing with paper towels, you avoid cutting trees.
In addition, the Dyson company produces significant amounts of electricity through renewable processes (wind turbines, solar panels, etc., note). In fact, we produce more energy than we consume, and therefore, as a research center, our carbon footprint is neutral.
Of course, we will continue to put a lot of effort into designing products that consume less plastic and more efficient, but more energy efficient motors.
