A Chinese company has started construction of two ceramic tile and layer production plants in Zambia.

The Sunda Group is building two factories in the Lusaka-Sud mixed-use zone with the investment of $ 100 million in the ceramic tile factory and $ 10 million in the diaper factory.

The information came to light when the Zambian consul general in Guangzhou, Daniel Chisenga, met with a delegation from the company led by its vice president Daniel Wang, according to a statement released Thursday by the consulate.

The first plant, which will produce ceramic tiles under the Twyford brand, is expected to start production in April, while the second will begin production of coats in June under the Software brand.

Mr. Wang said during the meeting that this investment should allow the creation of 500 jobs during the construction phase, then 1,500 jobs once production has started.

According to him, the Sunda group will use 95% locally sourced inputs in the production of ceramic tiles, which will promote added value and create around 2,000 indirect jobs.

He said the company was determined to support Zambia’s industrialization and value addition and would invest more in the southern African nation.

Mr. Chisenga thanked the Chinese company for its investment in Zambia.

This investment, he said, gives impetus to Zambia’s economic diplomacy, a strategy that requires Zambian embassies to attract foreign direct investment.
