Jakarta –
cell phone battery, Laptops and wearables currently on the market usually only last a few hours to a few days. A company from China seems to have the solution, and they are developing a battery that can last for decades.
The unique battery was developed by a Chinese company called He was in. In contrast to cellphone batteries which mostly use lithium material, Betavolt develops powerful batteries nuclear.
Betavolt says this battery works by relying on radioactive decay to produce electrical energy. This technology has never been used before because radioactive materials, such as plutonium, are too dangerous.
In addition, there are also concerns that nuclear-powered batteries are too large or that the power provided is not enough. However, Betavolt already has a prototype model measuring 15 x 5 x 5 mm, no bigger than a coin.
This model is said to be able to produce 100 microwatts of electricity with a voltage of 5V. However, Betavolt has plans to produce batteries that can produce 1 watt of power by 2025.
“Atomic power battery He was in “can meet long-term electricity supply needs in various scenarios, such as space, AI equipment, medical equipment, microprocessors, advanced sensors, small drones and micro robots,” said Betavolt in its official statement, as quoted by The Independent, Monday (15/1 /2024).
Thanks to its small size, Betavolt says this battery can power cellphones that don’t need to be charged and drones that can fly forever. They claim this nuclear-powered battery can last up to 50 years.
Not only that, this battery is also said to be able to function in extreme temperatures ranging from -60 degrees to 120 degrees Celsius. Betavolt also ensures that no radiation will leak from this nuclear battery system.
“Battery “The atomic power developed by Betavolt is very safe, has no external radiation, and is suitable for use in medical devices such as pacemakers, artificial hearts, and cochleae in the human body,” said Betavolt.
“Atomic-powered batteries are also environmentally friendly. After a period of decay, isotope 63 will change to a stable copper isotope, which is not radioactive and does not pose any threat or cause pollution to the environment,” he continued.
