It’s a good thing the British still have Minis. Without the BMW subsidiary, they would already have had to line up behind the new challengers from China on the German market. The MG brand revived by SAIC and the Geely subsidiaries Link&Co and Polestar already had more new registrations in Germany in the first half of the year than all British brands apart from Mini combined, from Land Rover to Jaguar and Bentley to Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce. This is evident from the figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
MG made the biggest leap: 927 vehicles of the brand were newly registered nationwide in June alone. This put the brand ahead of Alfa Romeo (412) and Smart (597) and just behind Land Rover (1077) that month. The top-selling MG model in Germany was the plug-in hybrid SUV EHS, which accounted for more than half of German June sales with 546 new registrations, followed by the electric SUV ZS, which contributed a good quarter with 260 vehicles.
In the same month, Lynk&Co registered 364 new registrations of its only model to date, the Lynk&Co 01 plug-in hybrid. This put the Geely subsidiary ahead of Subaru (301), Jaguar (255) and Lexus (235). The Swedish-Chinese sister company Polestar had 241 new registrations in the month and was thus also just ahead of the Toyota premium brand Lexus. Almost all of these were the Polestar 2 electric sedan. There were only two new registrations of the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid.
