Chinese Analysts Demand Return of Vladivostok and Other “Stolen Territories” in Response to Putin Interview

Chinese analysts also decided to delve into the story after Putin’s statements in an interview with American journalist Carslon.

The “historical excursions” of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, with which he tried to justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine, repeating the well-known Kremlin narratives about “original Russian lands,” gave Chinese analysts the idea of putting forward territorial claims to Russia. In particular, they demanded the return of Vladivostok and other “stolen territories” to China.

“The (Putin – ed.) interview once again confirms my bias: fixation on history is usually unconstructive. Why should we refer to the 8th or 13th century, and not to 220 BC? We live in our days with laws, not in the 8th century“, wrote in his account on social network X analyst Zichen Wang from the China Globalization Center.

A user named Robert Wu, in turn, responded that Russia should return to China the lands “stolen more than 100 years ago.”

“Historically, Russia must return Vladivostok and the vast territory stolen to us more than 100 years ago.”he wrote.

Note that the territory of present-day Vladivostok was transferred by China to Russia as a result of the Aigun Treaty of 1858 and the Beijing Treaty of 1860. Many in China consider these agreements unfair and demand the return of their lands.

Let us recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called Putin’s attempts to justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine absurd, and the head of the British government, Rishi Sunak, said that the statements of the Russian President in an interview with Carlson were ridiculous.
