Chinatown Milan remembers the victims of the fire in via Cantoni

(ANSA) – MILAN, SEPTEMBER 22 – The Chinese community in Milan remembers the victims of the fire on Via Cantoni, where on the evening of September 12 flames engulfed the showroom where Pan An, 24, Yinjie Liu, 17, and Yindan Dong, 18, the latter brother and sister, were sleeping. In Piazzale Gramsci, in the Chinatown neighborhood, a black banner was hung with the words in Chinese and Italian: “Deepest condolences for our deceased compatriots. Firm condemnation of the malicious criminal act.” In addition to the names of the victims, photos of their faces were displayed with black bows on the frames. On the ground was a drawing of a heart made of lit candles. The President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, also arrived at the ceremony a short while ago, and immediately met the mothers of the young people and placed a hand on their shoulders. Upon arrival, he said he was “moved” by what happened. Bouquets of white and yellow flowers were distributed to those attending the commemoration, around a hundred people. The ceremony, which lasted just over half an hour, was attended, among others, by the president of the Chinese association in Milan Huang Yiran and the Chinese consul general in Milan and Liu Kan, who recalled that “we all have to pay attention to security so that these things never happen again”. The importance of “shedding light” on “this tragic episode” was also reiterated by the councilor for Security of the Municipality of Milan Marco Granelli, who also underlined that “our city’s relations with the Chinese community are continuous”. The three boys “should not have been there”, said the well-known entrepreneur Francesco Wu on the sidelines of the ceremony. “One of them had been back from China for three days, the others for five. It’s a disgrace, they shouldn’t have died like this. We don’t dare understand the pain that the families are going through. They are families who have lost everything”. At the end of the commemoration, the president of the Senate also placed a bouquet of flowers in front of the photos of the victims. (HANDLE).
