Chinatown Community Plans Permanent Memorial for Christina Lee After It Was Vandalized Twice – NBC New York

For the second time they damage the monument dedicated to the 35-year-old woman who was murdered and harassed in Chinatown last month.

A surveillance camera stationed near the site of the Christian Yuna Lee memorial captured the suspect as he kicked off the site early Thursday morning.

Lee’s former landlord, Brian Chin, shared a video of the incident. He says police are looking for the man and investigating the vandalism as a possible hate crime.

“It has been less than three weeks since his death, and we, and the Chinatown community as a whole, are still grieving,” Chin said. “So seeing his memorial, in which people continue to lay flowers and light candles every night, repeatedly and brutally attacked, leaves me with a feeling of anger and sadness that I didn’t think was possible.”

The monument outside Lee’s apartment building on Chrystie Street was also vandalized on February 19.

Chin said the community plans to set up a permanent memorial flower garden next week.
