Almost simultaneously, the US Department of Energy presented the administration and key members of Congress with a secret report that concluded the new coronavirus originated in a laboratory. The ministry’s experts also concluded that the pandemic was allegedly caused by a virus leaking from a laboratory in Wuhan.

The Chinese are perplexed and blame America. In early March, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning, commenting on the US FBI’s statements about the laboratory origin of the coronavirus, stressed that China opposes any form of political manipulation under the pretext of searching for the source of the origin of COVID-19.

Beijing, for its part, has called the US Department of Energy’s “secret” report and other US speculation a lie and has demanded that the US open its suspected biological laboratories to international investigation.
