China’s Oil Refineries Increase Production to Meet Summer Travel Demand

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Official data showed on Monday that the average daily consumption of oil refineries in China rose 1.6 percent from a previous month, with refineries (TADAWUL:) resuming operations after completing spring maintenance and increasing production to meet summer travel demand.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that the total consumption rate of refineries in the second largest oil consumer in the world amounted to 60.95 million metric tons last month, equivalent to 14.83 million barrels per day.

The June numbers represent a marginal increase from the 14.6 million barrels per day recorded last month, but rose 10.2 percent from the same period last year.

During the first half of this year, China operated 363.6 million metric tons of crude oil, or 14.44 barrels per day, up 9.9 percent year on year, according to the data.
